Expert data analysis to boost your impact

I use data analysis to help research funders and organisations find better ways of working, make informed decisions and shape their strategies to have the best chance of delivering transformational research

I’m Jorge Gomez-Magenti. I love helping people make better decisions so they can maximise their impact.

Using my expertise in data analytics and experience working in research organisations, I answer complex questions and provide insights that can revolutionise the way you think about research funding and impact.

I use advanced techniques and the latest technologies to help charities and other research funders address their most pressing challenges. I could help you:

  • Better understand and demonstrate the impact of your funding

  • Highlight crucial gaps in a field to help develop your research strategy

  • Streamline your peer review process

  • Identify potential funding partners and collaborators

…and much more. If you’re grappling with a question that you don’t know how to answer, I can probably help.

“This work is going to make a huge difference to how we show our impact as a charity in our fundraising and wider communications work.”

Janet Lindsay, Wellbeing of Women

“Jorge was able to uncover incredibly valuable information that will help us shape our next research strategy.”

Yarunnessa Khan, Crohn's and Colitis UK

“Jorge helped us uncover insights about our historical research portfolio that we hadn't previously recognised.”

Stephanie Guest, The Health Foundation

Who I work with

I work with research organisations of all shapes and sizes – from medical research charities to public bodies, commercial enterprises and universities.

If you work in research and are looking to use data to solve a problem or gain new insights, I’d love to hear from you.

My impact

My landscape analysis, research specification and partnership building led to what could become the most significant piece of work on dementia diagnosis in this country

My work brought in almost £10m from external partners for a revolutionary programme working towards the implementation of blood tests for Alzheimer's disease

My tool to find expert reviewers cut down the time needed for this process by two thirds, freeing up resource, and delivering a systematic, reproducible way of finding grant reviewers.

My gender and ethnicity analyses of funding processes led to the introduction of narrative CVs, mentoring groups, and the piloting of double-blinded review

I champion the use of AI tools: I’ve developed use-cases for multiple teams within charities, and delivered webinars for small charities and research organisations

My analysis prompted a charity to change its grant reporting tool for a new mixed-methods reporting process – saving on an expensive subscription and receiving 86% positive feedback from the research community in its first year.

What my clients say about me

Jorge’s commitment to continuous learning and improvement, combined with his innovative approaches, have been invaluable and set a remarkable example for others research funders."

Dr Rosa Sancho - Chief Operating Officer at the Multidisciplinary Institute on Ageing, Portugal

"Jorge thrives thanks to his talent for identifying crucial gaps in research fields. He was the architect of the Blood Biomarker Challenge, an initiative that not only advanced our research agenda but also attracted significant funding and key collaborators. His knack for building relationships and understanding the bigger picture makes him an invaluable asset to any team seeking to make a profound impact in their field."

Dr Sara Imarisio - Strategy Leader - Neuroscience at the Medicines Discovery Catapult

Zoe Bunter - Head of Fundraising and Communications at Caring Together

"HUGE thank you for the webinar on GenAI. I found it personally useful in opening my eyes to the possibilities and taking a more conversational/exploratory approach, rather than just using AI for menial tasks”

Jade Rolph, Director of Partnerships and Fundraising at REACT Disaster Response

“Jorge’s methodical and data driven approach, including qualitative interviews with experts in the field, has produced a wealth of easily accessible information that shows the huge impact the charity’s funding has had over the past 60 years.

The task of looking back over six decades of grants was a huge undertaking and the sheer amount that Jorge was able to sift through and summarise during a relatively short time is impressive. Jorge clearly communicated throughout the project, and we were impressed by the genuine enthusiasm he showed for our cause and his passion for impact analysis and evaluation. It was a pleasure to work with him!”

Jeremy Barratt - Director of Research at Wellbeing of Women

“Jorge was able to uncover incredibly valuable information about the IBD field in the UK, that will help us shape our next research strategy. Through his analyses he told us some things we suspected, but did not have any data for, but also gave us new insights that have changed our view on what the field needs and what our next steps should be.”

Yarunnessa Khan, Senior Research Strategy Lead, Crohn’s and Colitis UK

“Jorge’s analytical expertise helped us uncover insights about our historical research portfolio that we hadn't previously recognised. He was able to extract meaningful information from complex data while making the analysis process accessible to our team.”
